Gall is co-hosting a webinar on Friday 11th December with Indian law Firm Economic Laws Practice (ELP) exploring key considerations for Indian corporates looking to litigate and arbitrate in Hong Kong.
Executive Partner Caroline McNally and Associate Catherine Tso recently represented the husband in Hong Kong’s first private financial adjudication. The dispute was resolved under the Hong Kong Private Financial Adjudication (“PFA”) pilot scheme which was introduced in 2015 and is similar to arbitration in that parties sign an agreement to have the financial aspect of their divorce proceedings adjudicated by a jointly appointed family specialist practitioner, outside the formal court proceedings.
Nick Gall was quoted extensively in a feature in ALB’s August 2020 issue exploring how the pandemic has sped up the adoption of technology, including in the disputes hearing process. He shared his experience advising the plaintiff in Hong Kong’s first telephonic hearing in Cyberworks Audio Video Technology Limited v Mei Ah (HK) Company Limited & Ors and was quoted saying “if this is the ‘new normal’ then lawyers and clients will have to learn to collaborate and change the way they usually work together.”
June 15th, 2020 - Gall, a leading independent Hong Kong law firm focusing primarily on dispute resolution, announced today that May Leung has joined the firm’s Business Litigation practice as an Associate.
COVID-19 has created unforeseen challenges for businesses all over the world with an impact so far-reaching that several organisations are no longer able to survive. Governments have swiftly enacted relief measures but the financial consequences of the pandemic on businesses is unprecedented. Some common law jurisdictions have created new insolvency law measures to tackle the uphill struggle businesses face, but what rescue options are available in Hong Kong?
Associates Chantelle Woo, Catherine Tso and Loretta Ho hosted an "Associates in Family Law" Christmas lunch on December 10, 2019 and invited some of our peers along to catch up before the holiday season.
We hosted our first Women’s Disputes Christmas Dinner on December 5th, 2019, at Mott 32 and enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new ones over Peking Duck and plenty of wine. This will become an annual Gall event where we hope to create a relaxed, informal environment for women in disputes to connect.
Gall hosted a small breakfast event for our family law friends and colleagues to discuss the important topic of mental health in Hong Kong. After a short introduction from our Executive Partner Caroline McNally, Simon Bruce from Farrer & Co in London shared insights from a recent UK Law Society talk organised by the NGO Support Through Court about the explosion of consciousness surrounding wellness and mental health in the UK over the past few years, the importance of kindness, empathy and compassion amongst family lawyers in dealing with the work they do, and grounds for optimism in the family courts.
Nick Dealy, Kenix Yuen and Katherine Jones hosted a table at the Hong Kong Arbitration Charity Ball 2019 on October 22nd, an event held annually to raise funds to support local Hong Kong charities and assist in the development of arbitration across Asia. The Ball supported two fantastic organisations this year – Sailability and Mother’s Choice - and raised HK$789,587 to help beneficiaries.
